LifeMatters was founded by Scott Thompson, who wanted to create a socially responsible venture to better serve the challenges, needs and care for America’s aging in place population. Leveraging his knowledge and experience as CEO of HRTech, he set out create a home care business that focused not only on quality of care, but customer service, high standards, better wages for nurses and more.
In 2004, Scott teamed up with Jordan Clopton and Ricardo Gomez to create LifeMatters, an employee-based companion care, personal care and skilled care company serving residents of Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. All three partners bring extensive business and entrepreneurial experience to LifeMatters and their hard work and dedication has created an organization based upon three simple tenants: Quality of Care, Exceptional Customer Service and Best-In-Industry Training and Standards.
Scott Thompson – Founder & CEO
Mr. Thompson has been an entrepreneur over the past 13 years, building and selling three companies prior to founding LifeMatters. In 2004, Mr. Thompson founded LifeMatters to better serve the senior market.
Prior to founding LifeMatters, Mr. Thompson was CEO of HR Tech, which he co-founded in 1996. The firm served as an off-site human resource department for small to mid-size companies and quickly became the leading professional employer organization in the Mid-Atlantic states. HR Tech consulted, implemented and administered all payroll, workers' compensation, unemployment, 401(k) plans, section 125 cafeteria plans, health care plans, and all federal and state compliance for over 7,200 employees in 42 states across the U.S. by its fifth year in business. In January 2001, with $132 million in revenue, Mr. Thompson sold HR Tech.
In 2001, Mr. Thompson was honored by Ernst & Young as the recipient of the coveted Entrepreneur of the Year Award. In addition, his company was ranked as the 102nd fastest growing privately-held company in America and listed on the INC 500 list. In addition, Mr. Thompson built and sold Intraforce.com, an application service provider delivering intranets over the web to small businesses nationwide. Mr. Thompson founded Benetech, a health insurance agency that sold small and large group insurance contracts with an emphasis on the staffing sector. Mr. Thompson graduated Cum Laude in 1991 from Millersville University where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Finance.
Craig Goodman – President, Virginia Division
Craig is the President of the Virginia Division of LifeMatters. He brings to the company more has more than two decades of experience in operations, business development and marketing in a variety of fields. Craig was an investor and served as the VP of Business Development for Silver Nation, LLC which developed and launched two innovative programs, Manage On My Own and SeniorChecked, created to support senior citizens with their desire to “age in place”. Before joining Silver Nation, Craig was the National Sales Director for Murry’s Family of Fine Foods, as well as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Washington Seafood, Inc. He has also been the owner of a number of award-winning and critically acclaimed local restaurants. Craig has raised funds for many local charities including the Hematology/Oncology Department at Washington’s Children’s Hospital. Craig attended the University of Maryland, is married and has three grown daughters.
Carolyn Sweeney – Vice President of Operations
Carolyn is passionate about customer service and the delivery of care at LifeMatters. Carolyn, along with her team of Client Service Coordinators and Registered Nurses, handles all of the day-to-day logistics involved with managing a team of 150 nurses. Carolyn brings more than 35 years of industry experience to LifeMatters. She currently serves or has served on the boards for GROWS, The Alzheimer's Association of the National Capital Area, ASSIST and The Support Center. Carolyn received her BN in Health Care Administration from Northeastern University. She resides in Germantown, Maryland with her son.
Gary Reburn – CFO
Gary brings more than 25 years of private/public accounting and finance experience to LifeMatters, where he is responsible for the day to day management of all things financial. Prior to LifeMatters, Gary worked in various industries including real estate development and management and executive staffing. Gary also has 25 years of small business experience as the owner of two karate and fitness schools in Montgomery County. He is an active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and is a board member of the Izaak Walton League. Gary resides in Kensington, Maryland with his wife and two children.
